The San Angelo Gun Club hosts
three IR 50/50 matches per month.
On Saturday morning, January 5,2008, at the San Angelo Gun Club range, under moderate to gusty winds, Dan Killough shot the first prefect 250 (15X) of 2008. He backed this up with a 249 15X and a 248 13X. This was an unsanctioned practice match under the 50/50 rules. We, who were there are very proud of Dan under these difficult windy conditions. I believe that Dan proved that he can shoot with the best in the country.
There were nine of us shooting and I can assure you that Dan did not score the target.
This was only the second 250 shot at our range, the first was last summer by his wife, Dawn.
We were all shooting five to ten points lower than our normal due to the wind so those who have learned the wind had a real advantage.
One of the most remarkable scores was a 249 9X turned in by J. D. Dennis. This is even more remarkable in that he did this with a his factory rifle with one of our home made one piece rest.
Dan Batko, who we all know from the Centerfire Benchrest group, shot with us for the first time and we all enjoyed his company. He will be a contender.
2007 has been a good year for rimfire benchrest in San Angelo, Texas.
Thorough our efforts and the efforts of others, we were able to bring the shooters of the San Angelo Gun Club two new canopies and a first class measured set of targets. We have built eight new benches for these ranges and kept the weeds mowed. Several times a week you will find one or more of us trying to improve and keep up our range.
J. D. Dennis has done a fantastic job as Range Master. I will not attempt to name the others of us who are always willing to give of our time and talent for the improvement of the club facilities for fear of omitting someone. We know who they are and they do it for reasons other than recognition. We have become a better group for it. A wise man, my dad, told me that any organization of people is improved by the good that it does.

Good shooting Dan
Dan Killough is the winner with a score of 2934. This is a total of all the scores of the best 4 months out of the five months from April through August. A perfect score would have been 3000. That would be a maximum score of 250 X 12 targets. To equal Dan’s score next year we would only have to average a score 244.5 on all targets and that is not shabby. We have a pin for you, Dan.
I have attached a chart that shows our scores at all of the SOTY matches and it matches Wilbur’s totals. It is very important that a shooter attends all matches.
2008 is on us and we are looking forward to a lot of fun shooting with great friends and some friends we haven't met yet.
